Stainless steel produced from iron-based alloys having 11% chromium that prevents iron from rusting and makes it a useful product. 15-5 PH stainless steel plate is martensitic precipitated microstructure with about 15% Chromium and 5% Nickel. It offers better transverse toughness compared to 17-4 PH. It is used in applications such as Gears and shafts and nuclear reactor components. SS 15-5 PH Sheet has a density of 7.75 g/cm3 and ultimate tensile strength of 190000 psi and hardness of Rockwell C40 and thus find application in aerospace industries. Internationally recognized, 15-5ph plate ams 5862 has good mechanical properties at temperatures upto 316 Celcius. It has a hardness in the ranges of 375-444 HB when it is used in conditions of 900 Fahrenheit and high tensile of up to 1310 MPa. Similar to this, ams 5862 Coil is made of the same composition, however, it has low strength. It gets 6% elongated when annealed in the temperature ranges of 600 - 900 Fahrenheit.
ASTM A 693 Stainless Steel 15-5 PH Cold Rolled Plate supports heat treating before cold working. Heating it for short time at low temperatures can minimize distortion and scaling. It has a density of 7.82 g/cm3 at H1150. The ASME SA 693 15-5 PH Hot Rolled Plate requires Niobium and Tantalum within 0.15 to 0.45% ranges. Further, it supports eight standard heat treatments starting from H900, at this temperature, it is heated for an hour and then air-cooled at room temperature to strengthen the steel. It is also known by UNS S15500 Strip which is effective when hardness and corrosion resistance is required. The strip thickness is between 0.38 to 3.18mm and Poisson’s ratio is 0.272 in all hardened conditions. Its Werkstoff equivalent DIN 1.4545 Shim Sheet has a specific heat capacity of 0.46 kJ/kg/K in the range of 0 to 100 degrees and it exceeds the types 410 and 431 in terms of resistance to corrosion. It is hardened at 482 Celsius and then air-cooled.
Type 15-5ph Perforated Sheet provides resistance against oxidizing and reducing media. In all heat-treated conditions, it exhibits very little rusting when exposed to 5% salt fog at 95 Fahrenheit for more than 400 hours. Thus it is used in applications such as paper and pulp and chemical processing industries. The Alloy 15-5 PH Chequered Plate is hardened to sustain stress in the industries. It is heat-treated between 482 to 621 Celsius for one to four hours.
