What is Buttweld Pipe Fittings ?

Buttweld pipe fittings are components that are used in connecting different piping components within the pipeline. These buttweld fittings are welded directly on the pipe and play a pivotal role in influencing the characteristics of the flow. They can be produced either through hot or cold rolling procedures. The material used in their production can be nickel alloy, super duplex, and 6% moly. In most cases, the material used in the fitting is similar to the component it is welded on. These fittings are available in a range of shapes and dimensions depending, on their applications. The fittings are defined in the ASME B16.9 standards. These corrosion-resistant light-weight fittings are manufactured into MSS SP43.

What is Weldolet?

A weldolet is one of the most common branching connections. These components act as an outlet between a larger and a smaller piping connection. They help in reducing the concentration of stress on the piping area. These modules are beveled to facilitate easy joining operations and are therefore termed as buttweld fittings. Weldolets generally exhibit the same or higher pipe schedule to the pipe it is supposed to be attached with. It is available in a range of forged material grades namely ASTM A182, A105, A350, etc. The standard dimensions of these components range between 1/4 inch to 36 inches with the run pipe diameter and 1/2 to 2 with the branched diameter.

Hot to check Heat No. of Buttweld Pipe Fittings ?

A heat number is a unique identification code put on the fitting or piping material after it is rolled. In most cases, heat numbers are stamped on the pipe with the help of stencils or molds. They can be present on the surface of the fitting. Generally, the first digit is the furnace number. The second number indicates the year in, which the material was melted, and the third or fourth number indicates the melt number. These numbers are basically used for identification and controlling the quality of the components.

What is Pipe Reduce and Pipe End Cap ASME B16.9 ?

A pipe reducer is a component that enables pipes of different sizes to be connected within the system. These reducers also play an important role in reducing the flow characteristics across different channels within the piping system. Concentric reducers help in reducing the pipe in the center, while eccentric reducers reduce the pipe on the sides. Pipe End Cap ASME B16.9 helps in stopping the hydraulic flow within the system. These caps also act as a protective device. This allows pipes to be transported from place to place preventing, any physical and natural damage due to corrosion.

Steel Fittings Manufacturing as per NACE Certification : MRO175 and Specification of MSS: SP-83 / SP-95 in Mumbai

What is MSS SP 43?

MSS SP 43 provides standard requirements for fabricated and wrought butt-weld fittings. These fittings are widely used across low-pressure corrosion-resistant applications. They may include elbows, tees, reducers. The range covers component fittings, which can be only used alongside schedule 5S and 10S pipes in nominal sizes listed in ASME B36.19. These fittings are not pressure rated but can withstand a pressure rating of 30%. They are available in sizes between NPS 1/2 to NPS 24. The modules are furnished with cut square ends having a wall thickness of 0.12 inches or less. The modules in this range cover major austenitic steel ranges along with nonferrous metals.

Mumbai's Renowned Supplier and Exporter of Seam Welded 1D, 1.5D, L/R and Short Radius Steel Elbows SCH 5S, Sch10S, SCH 40 to Schedule 160 As per ASME B16.25

What is Schedule 40 Butt Weld Elbow ?

A schedule 40 Butt Weld Elbow is used across different piping systems to change the direction of the flow. These elbows are rated at 140 degrees, and pressure is dependent on the size of the fitting. Pipes fittings of 12 inches or larger make use of these standard SCH 40 elbows which are highly reliable and leak-proof. These elbows are produced as short or long radius elbows with desired directions. These elbows of SCH 40 are very common in this range due to their robust nature and moderate strength across different systems.

Difference between LR 45 Elbow and SR90 Elbow

Elbows are components, which help in changing the flow within a piping system.

  • An LR 45 elbow changes the direction of flow by 45 degrees, while an SR90 elbow changes the direction of flow by 90 degrees.
  • A Short radius elbow gives the pipe a sharper turn in the pipeline. A long radius elbow creates a bend in a shallower and simpler fashion.
  • SR elbows are prone to pressure drops. LR elbows help in maintaining the pressure within the system.
  • LR elbow has a radius of curvatures of 1.5 time’s nominal diameter. In SR elbow the radius of curvature is 1 times the nominal pipe diameter.

Grades of Buttweld Fittings

  • Carbon Steel Buttweld Pipe Fittings: ASTM A234 WPB / A420 WPL3/ A420 WPL6/ MSS-SP-75 WPHY 42/46/52/56/60/65/70

Difference between Butt Welding Equal Tee and Unequal tee

A tee has three openings that facilitate the movement of fluids and gases.

  • A butt weld equal tee has openings, which are equal in shape and opening. In an unequal tee, one of the openings is smaller compared to the other.
  • A buttweld unequal tee can be used to restrict the flow through one of its three ports. An equal tee allows for an equal distribution of flow across all three ports.
  • An equal tee is available for all standard dimensions. An unequal tee has to be specially produced because many of the diameters are not available within this range.

Schedule 40 Welded Fittings Marking & Packing

Items are bundled to guarantee that there's no harm amid travel. In case of trades, standard export packaging is exhausted wooden cases. All buttweld fittings are checked with Grade, Part No, Size, Degree and our exchange stamp. On uncommon demands we are able too, make custom checking on our items.

Benefits of Butt Weld Pipe Fittings

  • Buttweld fittings with matching pipe schedules, offers seamless flow inside the pipe.
  • Continuous metal structure adds to the strength of the piping system
  • Welded connection offers a more robust connection
  • Option of various turn radius using Short Radius (SR), Long Radius (LR) or 3R Elbows
  • Concentric reducer etc. offers gradual transition via welded pipe fitting.
  • Stainless Steel Butt Weld Fittings are more common in SCH 10 and SCH 40 configuration.
  • Stainless Steel Welded Fittings are also available in SCH 10, allowing a more thinner wall option.
  • Cost effective compared to their expensive threaded or socket weld counter parts.
