The main difference while comparing the specification ASTM F593 Vs A193 is that the ASTM A193 is a specification which covers fasteners that have been designed for use in high temperature, high pressure applications. On the other hand the ASTM F593 specified fasteners have been produced for those applications which have a more generic or if they are to be used as an all- purpose fastener. The ASTM F593 Specifications covers the chemical as well as mechanical requirements for stainless steel fasteners like the bolts, hex cap screws and studs. The alloys that fall under ASTM F593 Group 1 of the ASTM F593 specification envelopes austenitic stainless steel grades such as 303, 304, 304L, 305, 384 and XM1, 18-9LW, 302HQ as well as 303Se. On the other hand ASTM F593 Group 2 takes in to consideration the austenitic classes such as stainless steel grade 316 and its lower carbon content i.e. grade 316L. For applications that have a more frequent load bearing, the bolt stamped according to specification ASTM F593c is generally preferred across various fields. Fasteners which have been stamped with ASTM F593c means that they meets parameters set by the ASTM or the American Society for Testing and Materials International (www.astm.org). These fasteners generally have an ASTM F593 Yield Strength which is roughly about 20% more as compared to the usual 18-8 fastener. Besides being susceptible to crevice corrosion, another common problem with many stainless steel grade fasteners that they tend to become susceptible to pitting corrosion as well. In order to reduce the occurrence of pitting, stainless nuts and the ASTM F593 - 17 bolts need to be polished. Smoothing out the porous exterior or surface of the ASTM F593 specified fasteners will enhance their corrosion resistance.
