The ASTM A790 specification covers seamless as well as straight-seam welded ferritic/ austenitic grade Duplex Stainless Steel Pipe for general corrosive application. The main emphasis of the specification is resistance to stress related corrosion cracking. The Duplex 2205 Pipe must be made by either the seamless or an automatic welding process, without an addition of filler metals in the alloy during the welding operation. Heat analysis of the alloy needs to be performed in order to determine the percentages of the elements specified. Tests such as hardening tests, flattening tests, tension tests, hydrostatic tests and non- destructive electric tests must be made to conform as mentioned in the specified requirements. Find here complete Duplex Pipe Price List.
Due to the duality within the microstructure of stainless steel Duplex Pipe Material Grade, there is a combination of properties which could sometimes mean there are some compromises bound to occur as compared to either pure austenitic or pure ferritic grades. Duplex Stainless Steel Seamless Pipe are in most cases, tougher as opposed to ferritic stainless steel. And in some cases the tensile strengths of duplex stainless steels could be twice that for austenitic stainless steels.Although Duplex Stainless Steel Pipe are considered resistant to stress related corrosion cracking, they are not as resistant to this form of attack as the ferritic class stainless steel. However, the corrosion resistance of the least resistant Duplex stainless steel is higher than that of the most commonly used grades , i.e. 304 and 316 of stainless steel.
Duplex Stainless Steel Pipe are also magnetic, a property that can be used to easily distinguish the alloy from common austenitic grades of stainless steels.Besides being extremely resistant to corrosion , duplex grade stainless steel also have a high resistance to intergranular corrosion. Duplex stainless steels also demonstrate very high resistance to stress corrosion cracking or SCC even in the presence of chloride and sulphide environments. Hence the Duplex Pipe Schedule Chart can be used in marine applications as well as in sour wells.
Duplex Stainless Steel Tube earn their name as from their two phase or dual or duplex microstructure. The microstructure of duplex tubing consists of grains of 50% austenitic as well as 50% ferritic stainless steel in equal proportion. This type of Duplex Tube Material has a wide range of benefits, which is why this stainless steel grade is often chosen over regular ferritic or austenitic stainless steels. For instance, the Duplex Instrument Tubing tends to demonstrate increased tensile strength, which means that the alloy is about two times as strong as either ferritic or austenitic alloys. Due to the alloy’s increased yield strength, thinner cross sections can be produced by the Duplex Pipe Manufacturer of the walls of duplex stainless steels, which when created, provides a significant savings in terms of its weight. Hence Duplex Tubing and Duplex 2205 Pipe Suppliers prefer ordering duplex grade stainless steel materials since they are a popular choice for structural applications as well as pressure vessels.
The level of resistance to corrosion depends on the grade of Duplex Stainless Steel Tubing used by the end user. Generally the levels of corrosion resistance offered by this duplex grades tend to be similar to the range as for austenitic stainless steel grades such as 304 or 316. Like all stainless steels, all grades of Duplex Stainless Steel Tube also benefit from this particular property.
The ferritic part of the microstructure present in the Duplex Heat Exchanger Tubes provides this type of steel with very good stress related corrosion cracking or SCC resistance. This property of the Duplex Welded Tubes is what makes the alloy a popular choice for hot water tanks as well as process plants. This is a property that conventional austenitic stainless steels do not possess, and as compared to the Duplex Tube, austenitic grades can be susceptible to corrosion when exposed to situations of elevated temperature or humidity. In addition to its superior resistance to stress related corrosion cracking, the Duplex Stainless Steel Heat Exchanger Tubes also have an increased resistance to pitting, crevice, as well as general corrosion.
